Superb service, care, help and advice from start to finish. I was looked after by very friendly and considerate nursing and physio staff post Op which resulted in a very enjoyable stay on the ward, the food was excellent and the cups of tea very welcome indeed. Although I picked up a wound infection, and at 7 weeks post Op I am still struggling to achieve a fully straight leg, my recovery has been exceptional. By working extremely diligently on the exercises provided by the physio staff, I was able to hand the crutches back after just 3 weeks and have been able to walk, albeit slowly and carefully at first, unaided ever since. For those about to undergo surgery, expect NOT to be able to even move your foot at first. The swelling around the joint starts to die down after about 3 weeks but to start with it will appear very tight and very warm. it is hard to find a comfortable sleeping position because either side of the scar remains sore to the touch for about 8 weeks. Persevering with the stretching exercises will pay dividends even though with the stitches still in and the swelling etc it feels as though you are doing too much too soon. You need to really work hard at your rehab if you want to resume a normal routine as quickly as possible, it can be quite painful but everyday gets a little easier. Buy some ice packs and use them regularly. Injecting yourself for 28 days with the anti-clotting solution seems alien at first but gets quite easy and stress free with practice. Good luck, you are in fantastic hands so stay positive, expect the pain and discomfort because it is a big procedure, work hard at the exercises and enjoy the 6-week rest from work!!

the ward was lovely and clean at Fitzwilliam hospital ,Mr Massraf was very professional he listened to me and told me everything that was going to happen I was very grateful to him as he took over my case at last minute as my consultant was injured , he has done a excellent job of my knee replacement and I was told it was a complicated case . the food was good the call bell took a little while to be answered and the reason I was ringing was for pain relief it took 45 minutes and it was very soon after my operation and I had severe pain I then had to wait while they got another nurse from the other end to check the controlled drug, as a RGN myself I feel that patients should never be left in pain I was very keen to go home so that I could then manage my own pain relief ,at one time I was in severe pain and told I could not have any more controlled drugs as you were only allowed this so may times after operation I feel that this is not acceptable if pain relief is not working as nurses we must source something else . I asked for ice to bring swelling down as I had a previous knee replacement and this worked wonderfully in pain relief when I first asked I was asked was I a private patient as I had my operation at the Fitzwilliam hospital elective as it was recommended to me really it was no better that the city hospital where I had my other knee done. I asked for very little help as I was younger 50 yrs. old and able to be self caring once my spinal block had worn off all I wanted was my analgesia to keep me pain free, I have now fully recovered and am taking nothing at all ,
